Tribute to Chris MacDonald
The video game industry is full of unsung heroes. From quality assurance testers and localization designers and production gurus, literally thousands of people involved in the business just don
deserve.
But some of the most impressive of these heroes aren’t even employed by the industry proper. They
devote hundreds of hours of their free time to make the gaming community a better place.
Chris MacDonald, aka Kao Megura, was one of these devoted few. During his all-too-short life, move lists for a slew of popular games; he almost single-handedly charted the course of the modern famous work, a Final Fantasy 7 FAQ, is still considered by many to be one of the best ever written. today use that guide's skeleton, or structure, to help plan and organize their information in Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and on to obscure Samurai Shodown titles, you could always count on MacDonald written, carefully organized, and often humorous guide to digital, apocalyptic beatdowns.
GameFAQs.
I know for a fact that at least some of you have used the site.
It's with great sadness that I tell you that Chris MacDonald, aka Kao Megura, has died.
I do not know the ramifications of the death (the family has decided against
releasing details), only that he died on Monday.
It's a sad day. I did not know Chris personally,
nor his brother Charles (who is involved in the emulation
community), but this is sad. Chris is a practical hero to the
entire gaming community, responsible for not only
informing an entire new generation of gamers how to get
through the most popular game of the 1990's (Final
Fantasy VII), but also fighting publishers when his works
were being illegitimately used. His contributions are many.
He also served as an inspiration to many FAQ writers,
including (indirectly) myself.
